The Big Lie

2 min read

Susie hates her lunch, everyday she gets bread and jam, she feels disappointed.

She brings it back home everyday, and secretly in the evening goes outside of the house and throws it in the garbage.

But today was different when she was throwing it out, she heard someone approaching behind her. It was evening so she couldn't see properly.

Susie what are you doing? Asked Dad.

Oh daddy, I am picking blueberries in the garden. Susie lied.

At this time? Show me your hand.

Susie showed the empty lunch box.

But it was too late. Dad saw the old sandwiches in the garbage.

Did you throw your lunch, why are the sandwiches in the garbage.

They are not mine. Susie lied again.

Susie lets go inside. I want to talk with you. Dad said angrily.

Susie knew she was in trouble.

She ran inside the house with tears running down her cheeks.

Mom saw her and asked Dad what happened.

Dad explained.

Susie you shouldn't lie, did you throw your school lunch in the garbage? Why didn't you eat it?

I am sorry mom, I dont like Jam sandwiches. Susie said.

Ok then what do you like to eat? You don't have to hide from us, you could have told us. Dad said.

Lying is not good. God wants us to tell the truth, even if it makes us look bad. He wants us to be honest.

Sorry Mom, sorry Dad. I thought you would get angry if I told the truth.

No darling, we love you no matter what, next time be honest with us, and we will understand.

The next day when Susie opened her lunch box she found her favourite pizza slice instead of her Jam sandwich.

She was so happy and learnt her lesson and promised to be honest next time.
